Global Tracking for Commercial Aircraft by the International Air Transport Association (IATA)

The Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute (CASI), Quebec Branch, in collaboration with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and PMI-Montreal’s Aviation and Air Travel Community of Practice, welcomes you to the second event of its 2015 Speaker Series, to be held on Wednesday, November 18th from 7:30 am to 9 am.

The presentation will be given by Mr. Atholl Buchan, Director of Flight Operations at IATA, and by Mr. Jean-Francois Grout, Assistant Director of ICAO Relations at IATA, on the Global Tracking for Commercial Aircraft.

Description:

In the aftermath of the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, the aviation industry began defining strategies to improve aircraft safety. As a result, the international Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) proposed a new standard for global tracking of commercial aircraft. The following will be presented:

The latest technical results and recommendations:

• Does real-time tracking improve aviation safety?

• What is the state of advancement of the current regulation?

• What should airlines do in order to adopt the new standard?

• What would be the opportunities and challenges for aircraft and embedded systems manufacturers?

The project from an organizational standpoint:

• How was the project initiated?

• How were various stakeholders engaged and organized into various task forces?

• What were the targets and timelines of each working group?

The event will be held the IATA Head Office, located at 800 Place Victoria, Downtown Montreal.
